The UGH Journal

Twice a year, in May and November, students enrolled in HIST 196 JABC publish the UC Santa Barbara Undergraduate Journal of History. The UGH Journal showcases the exceptional work of undergraduate history scholars, providing a platform for original research and academic excellence.

Each issue features meticulously crafted articles written by undergraduate authors, who explore diverse historical topics through innovative approaches and rigorous analysis. These papers undergo a thorough peer-review process, receiving feedback from history faculty and graduate students to ensure the highest quality of scholarship.

In addition to original research articles, the November issue highlights the work of the recipient of the Stuart L. Bernath Prize. This distinguished award, presented annually by the UCSB History Department, recognizes the best undergraduate research paper produced in a one-quarter history course, as determined by the History Prizes Committee. The winning paper is celebrated for its scholarly rigor, originality, and contribution to the field of history.
